10th MOUNTAIN STOUT

Aspen Brewery’s 10th Mountain Stout is just what you need after a cold day in the Elk Mountains. Centered primarily along British Oatmeal Stouts, the malty sweetness and subtle smokiness of this brew will warm you up wonderfully, despite its relatively low alcohol content. Our mash of 2-Row, Chocolate, Caramel, and Roasted barleys are balanced with oat flakes and grassy Fuggle hops – a British favorite – to allow for a hearty, satisfying stout that is both drinkable and fulfilling. If you’re looking for a second wind after snowshoeing, snowboarding, skiing, or any winter sport for that matter, all you need is a couple pints of 10th Mountain. Pick up a growler of 10th Mountain at Aspen Brewery! When you drink it is up to you – but we hear 10th Mountain makes for a killer breakfast beer!

We would also like to recognize the 10th Mountain Division of the U.S. Army as a source of inspiration for 10th Mountain Stout. The 10th Mountain Division used the mountains around Aspen as training sites in preparation for World War II. Following the war, many of the skiing soldiers returned, and helped place Aspen on the map as a ski town.

Stouts primarily compliment three surprisingly different food groups: seafood, cheese, and chocolate. Traditionally, stout in Ireland would accompany everything from fish & chips, to smoked salmon, and on to shellfish like lobsters and oysters. Steaming muscles and clams in stout makes for an amazing meal if you don’t drink the stuff before cooking! Chocolate puddings, mousses, and cakes are probably the most obvious food group to pair with a good stout, especially Aspen Brewery’s 10th Mountain Stout. Your first taste of 10th Mountain will leave a sweet and smoky chocolate aftertaste on the tongue, the perfect warm-up for stronger, richer, and darker chocolates. Lastly, the smoky undertones of 10th Mountain Stout are a wonderful compliment for many cheeses. Try a pint with French brie, stinky goat, or smoked cheddar cheeses for some great flavor combinations.
